2012 USL Super-20 Pacific Southern California Division
USL stands at the forefront of development within the North American soccer landscape. In response to a growing need, USL pioneered the Super-20 League in 2006, providing an additional opportunity for players aging out of youth soccer to continue to develop as they moved through the game.
As the original and longest-running under-20 men's and women's amateur league in North America, the Super-20 League provides an opportunity for the top 17-20 year olds to compete in high-level competition from May through July within a team's geographic region. It affords the opportunity for MLS, WPS, USL PRO, Premier Development League and W-League clubs to establish a reserve team system in which their players can continue balanced play throughout the calendar year. The Super-20 League also acts as the catalyst to have MLS and WPS teams provide player identification programs for U.S. National Team programs, professional soccer, and to provide the competitive platform for the top 20-25,000 players in the United States and Canada.
Competing in the Super-20 League will allow for a smooth transition from the amateur to professional ranks, while maintaining a professional approach at all Super-20 matches.
Currently, six USL Super-20 Men's divisions exist, with teams such as Real So Cal, Ironbound SC, TSF Academy, Chicago Fire, Crew Juniors, Black Watch SC, Lower Merion SC, and Northern Virginia Royals, to name a few. On the women's side, five Super-20 Women's divisions exist with teams such as Colorado Rush, Triangle FC, Northern Virginia Majestics, MPS, Match Fit Chelsea Academy, and TSF Academy.
What makes the Super-20 League unique and appealing is the manner in which the league is administered. Although the league is an amateur league, it is operated with a strong level of professionalism both in the USL league office and with each competing team. USL prepares game schedules for its member teams with each team's assistance, monitors league competition, maintains league standings, and organizes playoff rounds to determine national championships.
Our minimum standards are a key component of the league's professional feel and look. Each team is required to follow these standards, which include guidelines regarding facilities, game day and game week responsibilities for home and away teams, uniforms and dress code, USL meeting attendance, public relations, team operations, and players. Using these guidelines and a first-class level of competition, the Super-20 League has established itself as the premier league for the advancement of players to the professional level.
"As the Crew player development model continues to evolve, we need to seek the highest competition for players who have graduated from our U-16 and U-18 Crew Soccer Academy teams. We now have two years of alums who are competing at top collegiate levels who will form the core for our
Super-20 League team."
